A 23-year-old woman from India, Navya Nelakuditi, passed away on April 9 during medical treatment following a severe vehicle collision near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her aunt, Sirisha Nelakudutu, is collecting donations to transport her remains back to India and noted that Nelakuditi received three extensive operations at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Nelakuditi had relocated to the United States the previous year to study for a master’s degree and was involved in the incident while heading back from a job placement discussion in Michigan. The additional occupant in the car emerged unharmed. According to her aunt in Frisco, Texas, Nelakuditi came from a family of modest farmers in India who had dedicated their resources to her schooling, with her aiming to establish a profession to aid them. The fundraising effort seeks to address hospital and intensive care costs, as well as assist her relatives in India. Within two days, contributions reached about $85,835 toward a $150,000 objective. In a distinct event, a 26-year-old non-resident Indian, Singireddy Sai Sri Harikrishna, was discovered deceased in Missouri. He had arrived in the US in 2023 for a master’s program in engineering and drowned in the Meramec River. The incident happened on April 11 during a birthday outing at Meramec State Park near Sullivan, where he reportedly became ensnared in submerged vegetation while swimming, leading to his submersion and death. His companions launched a donation drive for his family, gathering $24,283 of a $100,000 goal to date.
