LONDON: A 24-year-old Indian woman was stabbed to death in an apparent random attack at her home in west London. Kirandeep Kaur, from Piddi village in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district, was found dead at a property in Hayes on Sunday morning. She is survived by her infant child. A man in his twenties was discovered outside the house with stab wounds and is receiving hospital treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Kaur had moved to the UK two years ago on a student visa and was later on a work permit. Daniel Sean James, 44, of Pinner, was charged on Monday with murder, attempted murder and possession of a bladed article. He appeared at Willesden magistrates court on Tuesday without entering a plea and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on August 11. Kaur’s family in Punjab, who sold land to fund her education, have claimed the attack was racially motivated and sought Indian government assistance to repatriate her body. Metropolitan Police said officers responded to a stabbing report on Uxbridge Road around 7.55 am on July 12. Despite efforts by emergency services, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators stated there is currently no evidence of a hate crime but are keeping an open mind. Her brother said the family spent significant funds to support her studies abroad and expressed hope she would help improve their situation.
