A study by the National Foundation for American Policy shows that founders from India have started 96 billion-dollar companies in the United States, exceeding any other nation. Israel ranks second with 60, followed by the United Kingdom at 47, China at 41 and Canada at 30. Immigrants founded or co-founded 59 percent of America’s 775 privately held firms valued at $1 billion or more, up from 55 percent in earlier reports. Two-thirds of these unicorns were started by immigrants or their children. Nearly 80 percent have an immigrant founder or key leader. The findings emerge amid debates over immigration and H-1B visas. Commentators noted the entrepreneurial impact of the Indian-American community, which numbers about five million.
