Indian nationals residing in the UK with Biometric Residence Permits now have until 31 December 2026 to move to the digital eVisa system. Updated Home Office guidance issued on 8 June 2026 lengthens the validity of expired BRPs for domestic checks such as right to work and right to rent from 18 to 24 months after the printed expiry date, or until the new deadline, whichever occurs first.

This marks the third postponement of the original December 2024 cutoff and applies to holders of Skilled Worker visas, family visas and Indefinite Leave to Remain. The change eases on-shore administrative tasks but leaves international travel unaffected, as expired physical cards remain invalid for boarding flights.

The shift to a fully digital immigration system was completed in February 2026. Many BRP holders missed earlier transition notices. The latest extension aims to limit disruption while individuals complete account setup.

Applicants must register at the official UKVI website using their BRP, current passport and email address. Once created, users can generate share codes and update passport details. Failure to link a renewed passport may lead to travel issues.

Officials have given no indication of further extensions beyond December 2026. Legal advisers recommend completing the process promptly rather than relying on additional postponements.
