The Bodies We Carry art exhibition, presented by Triva at Bhavageetham Prayaana Art Hub in Kowdiar, Thiruvananthapuram, places evolving ideas about the body at its centre. Curated by filmmaker Sreekrishnan KP, the show presents works by seven artists who examine personal meanings of the body through varied media including canvas, postcards and food.
Sreekrishnan selected the artists according to the themes in their practice. He was drawn to the subject after seeing Vineetha Wilfred’s pieces at another exhibition and later added others whose work matched the central idea.
Vineetha’s five acrylic paintings on paper portray the female body as a source of strength. One portrait, Wounded Beautiful Moment, shows a woman’s bond with a cat that left a scar on her thigh.
Robert Lopez offers an inward view of the body through watercolour canvases. His impressionist pieces use abstract forms and bright colours to reflect his personal perspective.
Firoz Nediyath employs watercolour and pen on washed postcards to evoke memories and pain. His works, such as Blossom of the World of Nude and Mermaid, link nature with sexuality.
Rahana’s green-toned nature portraits suggest a meditative quality reminiscent of dark woodland settings. Lalkumar K records his experiences as a travelling government employee through pen and watercolour. Anu Kalikal’s paintings reveal a sense of being trapped and address her mental health challenges.
Shihab, an artist and chef, connects his portraits to nature and presented a culinary installation on the opening day; another will appear on the final day, July 15. The exhibition continues at the Kowdiar venue until July 15 from 11.30am to 5pm with free entry.
