Warner Bros. has updated the release plans for the first Game of Thrones feature film. The studio confirmed that Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest will appear in its theatrical lineup after 2027. Details emerged in the company’s second-quarter 2026 shareholders’ letter, listing the project alongside future installments of The Matrix, Batman and The Jetsons. No exact date has been set, so 2028 remains the earliest possible slot, though 2029 appears more likely given the current development stage. The movie will depict Aegon I Targaryen’s campaign to unite six of the Seven Kingdoms using dragons and military forces, as described in George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood. Dorne stayed independent during this period. Earlier, HBO and Warner Bros. considered separate television adaptations, including one linked to writer Mattson Tomlin. The theatrical version advanced after Beau Willimon wrote a screenplay that persuaded executives the story suited a feature film. Warner Bros. presented the project at CinemaCon in April as part of its post-2027 slate. No director or cast has been named, and production has not started. The schedule may help separate the expanding Westeros projects, with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season two due in 2027 and House of the Dragon ending in 2028.
