Sony and Santa Monica Studio have revealed God of War Laufey, concluding months of rumors about the franchise direction. Shown at the June 2026 State of Play event, the title centers on Faye, spouse of Kratos and parent of Atreus, as the main character for the first time.

Deborah Ann Woll returns to voice Faye, also called Laufey the Just, in a tale that starts right after her funeral pyre in the 2018 God of War. Instead of focusing on backstory, the plot follows her path through the Everywhen, an enigmatic afterlife domain filled with deities, beasts, and beings from varied mythologies.

The presentation ended with over 20 minutes of continuous gameplay footage that highlighted Faye’s fighting approach. In contrast to Kratos’ powerful style, she uses speed, nimbleness, and spells that mix Greek and Norse elements from prior entries. The team called the mechanics an update to the established system while staying true to the studio’s vision.

New figures appeared in the demo, such as the Egyptian deity Sekhmet and the Mongolian god Begtse, plus a companion called Phranque, a living cosmic cube voiced by Jack Quaid. A ribbon guardian named Rue also aids Faye.

The reveal adds to the legacy of a major PlayStation series. Santa Monica Studio refreshed God of War in 2018 by moving from Greek to Norse myths with a focus on family. That entry earned Game of the Year honors and acclaim for narrative, action, and technology. Its follow-up, God of War Ragnarök, arrived in 2022 with strong reviews and sales success. The pair elevated the franchise to a key Sony property, positioning God of War Laufey among the firm’s biggest upcoming titles.

Although Kratos is not the lead, the studio noted that events occur alongside God of War Ragnarök and link to the larger tale. Developers stated the project continues the same narrative rather than serving as an isolated offshoot.
