The release of a major film can shift plans across an industry. After a period of waiting, the team behind actor and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s final movie, Jana Nayagan, confirmed a theatrical debut on July 23. The announcement, made shortly after the film received its censor certificate, has led several smaller Tamil productions to review or alter their own dates.
Lokesh Kanagaraj and Arun Matheswaran’s DC shifts to August 7
The project DC, featuring the acting debut of Vijay’s associate Lokesh Kanagaraj, had been set for July 31. To avoid a release only days after Jana Nayagan, producer Sun Pictures moved it to August 7. Arun Matheswaran directs the action drama, which includes Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy in key parts.
GV Prakash adjusts date for Immortal
Composer and actor GV Prakash Kumar had planned to launch Immortal on July 23. Following the new date for Jana Nayagan, he moved the film to September 4, noting in a post that space must be made when Vijay’s work arrives.
G.D.N postponement linked to Vijay release
Although the team behind Madhavan’s G.D.N has not confirmed any link, observers suggest the July 23 date influenced the decision to drop the original July 17 slot. Directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar, the biopic on inventor GD Naidu features Sathyaraj, Jayaram, Priyamani, Dushara Vijayan, Thambi Ramaiah and Vinay Rai. A revised date remains pending.
Further Tamil releases under review
Two additional films have yet to finalize dates. Sathyavan Savithri, with Keerthy Suresh and Mysskin, is listed for July 24. Sigma, the directorial debut of Vijay’s son Jason Sanjay and starring Sundeep Kishan, is currently planned for July 31, with possible changes expected soon.
