Ahead of upcoming trade discussions between US and Indian officials, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal stated that negotiations would factor in legal adjustments to the US tariff framework, according to a Reuters report. Most elements of the proposed agreement have been settled, with only minor points remaining under review. Several members of the US delegation have reached India, and formal meetings are set to start on June 2 and continue through June 4. Goyal expressed confidence that the initial phase of the bilateral trade pact would be completed soon, after which both sides would begin talks on a broader agreement. His remarks follow comments by the US Ambassador, who noted that 99 percent of the deal had been finalized. An Indian team had visited Washington last week to address the remaining details. The ambassador added that a US delegation would arrive the following week, with expectations that the agreement could be signed within weeks or months.
