In Delhi, petrol crossed the ₹100 per litre threshold for the first time in four years, reaching ₹102.12 after a ₹2.61 increase. Diesel climbed ₹2.71 to ₹95.20 per litre. Among major cities, Kolkata recorded the largest petrol jump at ₹2.87, now at ₹113.51, while Mumbai saw the biggest diesel gain of ₹2.81 to ₹97.83. Chennai had smaller increases, with petrol up ₹2.46 to ₹107.77 and diesel up ₹2.57 to ₹99.55. Oil companies had held prices steady for three months amid rising crude costs before starting adjustments on May 15. The first round added ₹3 per litre, followed by two smaller hikes of 90 paise each. India’s crude basket averaged $107.96 per barrel through May 22, while Brent futures dropped 4.8 percent to $98.59 amid reports of a potential Iran-U.S. agreement.
