Rising swine flu deaths have caused concern, yet there is no reason for alarm. Several straightforward measures can help guard against flu viruses of any type, including swine flu. It is unnecessary to adopt every step simultaneously; individuals may select combinations that fit their needs. These steps offer only partial support once infection has begun.
1. Consume five washed tulsi leaves each morning. The plant offers multiple health benefits, clears the respiratory passages and strengthens resistance to infections.
2. Prepare a decoction using a one-foot giloi stem, five or six tulsi leaves, black pepper and rock salt or crystal sugar. Boil for fifteen to twenty minutes, cool slightly and drink while warm. If fresh giloi is unavailable, use processed powder from established suppliers.
3. Adults may swallow a small piece of camphor with water once or twice monthly; children can take it mixed with banana or potato. Use only once per season or month.
4. Two raw garlic cloves swallowed with lukewarm water each morning can also support immunity.
5. A glass of warm milk containing a small amount of turmeric may be taken nightly by those who tolerate dairy.
6. One teaspoon of aloe vera gel mixed with water daily is said to aid immunity as well as skin and joints.
7. Homeopathic preparations such as Pyrogenium 200 and Influenzinum 200, taken as five tablets or several drops three times daily, are recommended by some as a general flu preventive.
8. Daily breathing exercises and regular walking or jogging help maintain respiratory health and overall fitness.
9. Citrus fruits, especially amla juice, supply vitamin C. Packaged amla juice may be used when fresh fruit is unavailable.
10. Frequent hand washing with soap and warm water for fifteen to twenty seconds, particularly before meals and after touching public surfaces, remains essential. Alcohol-based sanitizers provide a convenient alternative.
