A district court on Friday remanded Jaspal Singh, arrested for allegedly assaulting Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, to police custody until August 24, an official said. Singh was detained immediately after the alleged attack inside Mata Sahib Gurdwara on Thursday. Officials stated he was questioned for hours, yet no clear motive for the act has been determined. He appeared before the court in Mudkhed around 4 p.m., where the judge ordered police custody until August 24. Badal, treated for hand injuries at a local hospital, flew to Delhi on Friday afternoon.
