Akshaya Kshetram, a residential facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities, has been aiding the local area near Tirumala for 30 years.
Established on October 2, 1996, by octogenarians M. Ramaswamy and M. Varalakshmi, the center began as a daytime care service for children with intellectual disabilities left behind by their families. In the 1980s and 1990s, more parents began abandoning such children at Tirumala.
