Members of the Faizabad Bar Association organized a protest march on Thursday against alleged misuse of donations for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. They submitted a petition calling for an FIR against Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust general secretary Champat Rai, member Anil Mishra, and two other officials.
The lawyers walked from the court complex to the Ram Janmabhoomi police station and urged officers to register the case and conduct an impartial investigation. Participants chanted slogans demanding action against senior trust officials. The association had earlier warned that its members would not represent anyone accused in the matter and would impose a fine of five lakh rupees on any lawyer who did so.
Police struggled to control the crowd, and some lawyers reported minor injuries from the congestion. Dozens of lawyers later entered the station house officer’s office to press for immediate registration of the complaint. Officials said the petition would be examined and necessary steps taken.
The petition named Champat Rai, Anil Mishra, Gopal Rao and Krishna Dev Giri. A bar association member stated that Rao is connected to temple construction and trust activities. The Congress party backed the lawyers’ call, alleging that government resources were being used to shield influential figures and demanding a transparent account of all donations.
