To develop a modern, fast and integrated regional transport network, the Bihar cabinet on Wednesday gave in-principle approval for preparing Detailed Project Reports for four Regional Rapid Transit System corridors. The planned RRTS network aims to deliver safe, reliable and environmentally sustainable connectivity for residents, students, professionals and businesses. It will link the state capital with nearby major urban areas and support satellite townships. The cabinet approved an estimated ₹31.59 crore for Alternative Analysis Reports and DPRs for the four corridors and assigned the work to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation. The corridors are Patna–Gaya Ji, Patna Airport–Begusarai, Patna–Hajipur–Proposed Sonepur Airport–Muzaffarpur, and Patna Airport–Ara. In a separate decision, the cabinet extended the Mukhya Mantri Swayam Sahayta Bhatta Yojana for five more years from 2026-27 to 2030-31, with administrative approval for ₹300 crore in the first year. It also approved acquisition of 26.76 acres of land for AIIMS Patna expansion at an estimated cost of ₹348.89 crore to build a Super Specialty Block, Eye Centre and supporting infrastructure. Additionally, 76 teaching posts were created for postgraduate technical courses in ten government engineering colleges, and five acres of land each were approved on a token lease for new Kendriya Vidyalayas in Madhubani, Munger and Muzaffarpur districts.
