Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has addressed the dispute over the bungalow occupied by Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Rabri Devi. He stated that she must vacate the residence without exception.
Speaking at a public meeting during the Sahyog Camp in Muzaffarpur on Tuesday, Mr. Choudhary said the arrangement was not a monarchy where family members could claim separate houses.
The Building Construction Department issued a second notice on May 29, 2026, requiring Ms. Devi to leave the 10, Circular Road bungalow, which had been allotted to Dairy and Fisheries Minister Nand Kishor Ram. On May 31, she received a 15-day deadline to vacate. The department has instead allotted her the 39, Harding Road bungalow.
Ms. Devi has refused to move and challenged authorities to evict her by force. Mr. Choudhary asserted that the bungalow would be vacated and that no one could prevent it. He also noted that such properties are not hereditary entitlements.
The Chief Minister added that he had lived in modest official residences during previous ministerial roles and would vacate the Chief Minister’s house when required. BCD Minister Lesi Singh later met former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to discuss the matter and confirmed that Ms. Devi must shift to the new allotment.
