Self-enumeration for Census 2027 began across Assam on Sunday except in two flood-hit districts. Preparatory work has been suspended in Sivasagar and Charaideo, which are still recovering from severe July floods that caused most of the 82 deaths recorded in the state this year.
Census Operations Director Biswajit Pegu said the online self-enumeration process supports greater public involvement. Residents can submit household details through se.census.gov.in until August 16, before house-listing operations start on August 17. Trained enumerators will later visit homes to verify or collect information.
Pegu noted that the Census Act of 1948 protects the confidentiality of all submitted data. Training and other preparations remain suspended in the two districts until further notice.
Assam General Administration Department Commissioner Narsing Pawar said the state government will provide full support to ensure the census proceeds smoothly.
