The CPI(M) has called on the State government to address issues facing farmers, workers and employees rather than focusing on corporate interests and land projects.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, party State secretary V. Srinivasa Rao claimed the government had placed heavy costs on consumers through electricity policies and had not revealed full details of power purchase agreements. He sought clarity on expenses for power from Rajasthan under deals tied to the Adani-SECI arrangement and challenged official statements about lower power tariffs.

The CPI(M) leader said the government misled the public by noting small cuts in electricity charges after earlier large increases. He also asked why tariffs had not been lowered despite pre-election promises.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao raised concerns about tobacco farmers in Prakasam district, noting sharp drops in market prices despite assurances of better returns from the Chief Minister. He said growers faced major losses and urged State and Central governments to step in to protect their interests.

He criticised limits on urea supply to tenant farmers, saying many had to buy fertiliser on the black market. The government should provide enough fertiliser to all eligible farmers, he added.

On transport policy, Mr. Srinivasa Rao opposed giving electric buses to private operators and said they should stay with the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. He also opposed privatisation of municipal services and assets and backed protests by municipal workers, employees and teachers.

He called for a judicial inquiry into the alleged Sai Krishna custodial death case, saying only an independent probe could reveal the facts.
