The morning protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar escalated when police moved climate activist Sonam Wangchuk to Safdarjung Hospital. Authorities stated the transfer followed medical advice due to dehydration and declining health after 21 days of fasting, in line with Delhi High Court orders for regular checkups. Protesters alleged a swift forcible removal involving plainclothes officers and bedsheets used to block views, but police denied any use of force or lathi-charge, insisting the action was purely medical. Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali Angmo, raised concerns over transparency and requested no treatment without consent. The activist remains on hunger strike, refusing intravenous fluids or medication. Hospital reports noted stable vital signs with signs of dehydration, compensated acidosis and low potassium, while monitoring continues. Security around the facility has been increased.
