A 28-year-old woman died after falling from the third floor of an NDMC residential complex in Lodhi Colony, Delhi, on Sunday. Police have begun an investigation into the incident.
The woman’s brother stated that her husband had subjected her to prolonged physical abuse and suspicion. He said the family learned of the event late on Saturday night and was later informed of her death at the hospital.
The deceased, identified as Akriti, had married Arastu Sikka in April after knowing him for eight years. She worked as a sales executive and had returned to her job on July 1. She was found injured on the ground near the building, which is about 10 km from her marital home, and was taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre where she was declared dead.
Her family rejected suggestions of suicide and alleged that her husband and in-laws had demanded 20 lakh rupees. They claimed repeated harassment, threats, and a recent argument. Police have initiated proceedings under Section 196 BNSS and informed the Sub Divisional Magistrate. A postmortem is underway and inquiries continue.
More details are awaited as verification of all aspects proceeds.
