Michael Dell, founder, chairman and chief executive of Dell Technologies, has posted the financial record he says altered his life path. On X, the billionaire shared Dell Computer Corporation’s earnings statement for the quarter ending 31 July 1984, calling it the document that led his parents to accept his choice to leave university.
“This one page changed my life,” Michael Dell stated in the post.
“42 years ago today, it convinced my parents I shouldn’t go back to college. I started by upgrading PCs from a dorm room. Today @Dell is helping build the infrastructure that powers AI, from the edge to some of the world’s largest AI factories. You never know which small decision will change everything. Keep building,” he continued.
Early earnings that changed everything The earnings statement indicated Dell Computer Corporation recorded total revenue of $888,821 in the three months ending 31 July 1984. It also listed a gross profit of $198,367, underscoring the firm’s solid initial results just months after its founding.
Dell began the company while enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin. At age 19, he started upgrading personal computers from his dormitory before departing to focus on the business full time.
