The Indian government has appointed Abhay Karandikar, secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, and Dr. M Srinivas, director of AIIMS Delhi, as full-time members of NITI Aayog. This represents the first substantial restructuring of the organization since its formation in 2015.
Renowned economist Ashok Lahiri has been selected as the new vice-chairperson, succeeding Suman Berry. The Prime Minister holds the position of ex-officio chairperson for NITI Aayog.
Karandikar and Srinivas are part of a group of four new members. The others include Gobardhan Das, director of IISER Bhopal, and K V Raju, a member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council.
