An earthquake measuring 4.3 struck Nashik district in Maharashtra on Saturday night, followed by aftershocks that caused cracks in some houses, officials said on Sunday. No loss of life was reported. The main quake occurred at 10 pm on Saturday, with a 3.3 magnitude tremor recorded at 5.33 am on Sunday by the National Centre for Seismology. The activity took place at a depth of 5 km in the Bhanwad area near the Hatgad mountain range close to the Maharashtra-Gujarat border. Tremors were felt across Nashik city and talukas including Surgana, Kalwan, Dewla, Chandwad, Peth, Dindori and Niphad, prompting residents to rush outside. Cracks appeared in walls at Bhadar in Surgana taluka and Nanashi in Dindori taluka. Officials inspected dams in the region and found no damage. The district collector urged people to remain calm, avoid rumours and follow safety precautions.
