Vungzagin Valte, a BJP legislator from Manipur’s Zomi community, passed away on February 21 at a Gurugram hospital following extended health complications from a violent assault in Imphal on May 4, 2023. More than four months later, his last rites will take place at his family residence in Churachandpur on Saturday. The 63-year-old three-time MLA from Thanlon had served as a former minister and adviser to the chief minister. He was among ten Kuki-Zomi legislators during the outbreak of ethnic clashes. The May 2023 attack caused multiple fractures and required ventilator care. He never regained full health and died in the hospital.
