Goethe-Zentrum Trivandrum has opened a new examination centre in Kozhikode to extend its reach into northern Kerala. The facility responds to rising demand for official German language certificates from students and young professionals in the Malabar region.

Candidates from Kozhikode, Kannur, Wayanad, Malappuram, Kasaragod and nearby districts previously travelled long distances for Goethe-Zertifikat tests. The new centre reduces travel needs and will hold regular sessions beginning August 19, with monthly assessments planned thereafter.

Alexandra Mittler, Director of Language Programmes for South Asia at the Goethe-Institut, said interest in German has grown sharply because many young people seek higher education and career options linked to Germany. The centre is situated at TT Avenue in Govindapuram, Kozhikode.

Beyond examinations, the organisation intends to organise film screenings, music and performing arts events, literary programmes and workshops with local universities. Syed Ibrahim, Director of Goethe-Zentrum Keralam, said the aim is to create lasting cultural ties and Indo-German exchanges in the region. The project builds on more than two decades of work by the Trivandrum centre.
