The India Meteorological Department has forecast that heatwave to severe heatwave conditions will continue over large areas of northwest, central and east India for the next six to seven days. Severe heatwave situations are expected in eastern Uttar Pradesh, eastern Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Vidarbha and parts of Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi. Heatwave conditions are also likely in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. On Thursday, Banda in Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest temperature in the country at 47.6 degrees Celsius, with several other regions in northwest, central and peninsular India seeing readings between 40 and 47 degrees. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in parts of the south and northeast.
