External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met his South Korean counterpart Cho Hyun on Wednesday to review bilateral cooperation and global developments. The meeting took place during Jaishankar’s two-day visit to South Korea, following his trip to Mongolia.

Jaishankar noted the timely nature of the discussions given current world conditions and the value of the India-South Korea relationship. Talks centered on follow-up actions in trade, investment and finance, building on agreements reached during the South Korean president’s April visit to India.

Jaishankar stressed the need to advance ties into a forward-looking partnership, expressing full commitment to realizing the relationship’s potential. After the meeting he highlighted cooperation in political, shipbuilding, defence, technology, clean energy, culture and people-to-people areas, as well as opportunities in startups, fintech and multilateral forums.

Cho described the president’s India visit as a turning point and welcomed progress on trade and investment issues. He also noted India’s hosting of Korea Week and pledged reciprocal support for Indian companies in South Korea. Both ministers agreed to stay in close contact on economic effects from developments in West Asia. They will meet again Thursday at the Jeju Forum, where Jaishankar is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
