Indian Railways maintains clear guidelines for Train Ticket Examiners to support efficient checking and passenger help on journeys. A TTE mainly verifies that travelers hold valid tickets or passes and ensures luggage above the free limit is charged correctly. They also stop unauthorized entry into coaches, including by those holding only platform tickets.
Beyond ticket checks, TTEs perform other duties. They act against smoking in public spaces, report carriage of dangerous or banned items, and assist with onboard announcements for passengers. TTEs must respond to medical emergencies by notifying the next station or control office so that aid can be provided at the nearest facility with hospital services.
