The Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, which has an approved capacity of 25 judges including 19 permanent and six additional positions, currently faces vacancies.

The court’s Collegium has put forward 11 candidates for these openings: 10 practicing attorneys and one active judicial official.

Sources indicate this is the largest batch of recommendations issued by the Collegium at once.

Among the nominees is Tabasum Zafar, a lawyer from Kashmir. If approved, she would become the first female attorney from Kashmir to join the high court bench. Other candidates include Vishal Sharma, who serves as Assistant Solicitor General of India at the high court; Namgyal Wangchuk; Jahangir Iqbal Ganai, previously the Advocate General of Jammu and Kashmir; Tahir Majid Shamsi, Deputy Solicitor General of India; and Amit Gupta, a former Additional Advocate General. The recommendations also feature Pawan Kumar Kundal, Anupam Raina, Vikram Kumar Sharma, and Pranav Kohli.
