The season’s first low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is set to strengthen the monsoon and deliver widespread rainfall across western and central India over the next four to five days. Officials stated the system is expected to track across northern Odisha and northern Chhattisgarh during the coming three days. Kerala along with the coasts of Karnataka and Maharashtra, including Mumbai and Pune, have already experienced consistent heavy showers for the past two to three days. Flooding has affected low-lying zones in these cities. The Western Ghats in Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan recorded more than 200 mm of rain on Friday. Parts of Saurashtra received 570 mm within 24 hours the same day, leading to widespread inundation.
