Former DMK minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam along with his wife and son have petitioned the Madras High Court seeking discharge from a disproportionate assets case registered against them by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in 2011. Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan is scheduled to hear the criminal revision petition on Monday against the Cuddalore Principal District and Sessions Court order of June 30, 2026, which rejected their discharge request. The case alleges that the accused could not explain assets worth 3.01 crore rupees amassed between April 2006 and March 2011 while Panneerselvam served as Health Minister. This marks the second attempt at discharge after an earlier plea was granted in 2016 but later overturned. The High Court had previously directed the trial court to conclude proceedings within a set timeframe, and a related Supreme Court petition was withdrawn. The sessions court rejected the latest plea, ruling that prior sanction was unnecessary because the FIR was filed after the minister left office. The accused now challenge that decision before the High Court, arguing the charge sheet should be quashed for lack of sanction.
