A mild earthquake and subsequent tremors struck Maharashtra’s Nashik district, leading to cracks in houses in several areas, officials reported on Sunday, August 9, 2026. No loss of life occurred. The National Centre for Seismology recorded a 4.3 magnitude quake at 10 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, followed by a 3.3 magnitude tremor at 5:33 a.m. on Sunday. The activity took place at a depth of 5 km in the Bhanwad area near the Hatgad mountain range close to the Maharashtra-Gujarat border. Shaking was felt in parts of Nashik city and talukas including Surgana, Kalwan, Dewla, Chandwad, Peth, Dindori and Niphad, prompting residents to exit homes. Cracks appeared in walls of houses at Bhadar in Surgana taluka and Nanashi in Dindori taluka. Officials inspected dams in the region and found no damage. District Collector Ayush Prasad urged people to avoid panic and rumors while staying alert and following safety steps. Similar tremors had been noted in the district from July 25 to 28 and on August 6.
