Pralhad Joshi assumed office as the new Union Education Minister on Sunday, according to officials. He received additional responsibility for the education portfolio while continuing in his role as Consumer Affairs Minister.

In a post on X, he stated that he had taken charge as Union Minister for Education and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the trust placed in him. He accepted the role with humility and a sense of duty.

Joshi chaired a review meeting of the ministry to assess progress on various schemes and initiatives. Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Singh joined the session along with secretaries from both departments and other senior officials.

Joshi replaced Dharmendra Pradhan, who resigned on Saturday after protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party over the NEET paper leak controversy.

In his resignation letter, Pradhan indicated that the decision was not about personal prestige and noted his concern over developments in the past ten days.
