Prashant Kishor can finally relax after months of intense campaigning and direct voter outreach. The Jan Suraaj founder achieved his party’s first electoral success on Monday by winning the Bankipur Assembly bypoll in Bihar. He defeated the BJP and ended its 35-year control of the seat.
Kishor beat BJP nominee Neeraj Kumar Sinha by 19,324 votes, receiving 64,151 votes to Sinha’s 44,827. RJD candidate Rekha Gupta placed third with 14,273 votes. Kishor built a steady lead during counting and secured the win by the 15th round.
The bypoll was held after BJP legislator Nitin Nabin resigned to join the Rajya Sabha.
EARLY EFFORTS YIELD RESULTS
The outcome followed extensive preparation by Kishor, who began campaigning nearly two months ahead of the BJP and RJD. He held public events, visited households and strengthened local organization in the constituency.
Kishor framed the contest as a verdict on the state government led by Samrat Choudhary. His platform stressed jobs, schooling and administration, targeting young and first-time voters.
The BJP viewed the race as important and sent about 40 prominent figures along with many workers to defend the seat.
PRIORITIES AFTER WIN
After the result, Kishor told reporters that his main goal is to fulfill the expectations of Bankipur residents. He promised visible improvements in the area within two to three months, while noting that major transformation would take time.
He added that the outcome conveyed a message to BJP leaders about selecting capable leadership for Bihar to ensure progress.
BJP RESPONSE
Bihar BJP chief Sanjay Saraogi congratulated Kishor and said the party would review its performance. State minister Vijay Kumar Sinha stated that the party accepts the mandate and will examine the reasons for the loss without questioning the process.
