The Railway Board has approved the introduction of India’s first hydrogen-powered train. In a letter dated May 22, 2026, sent to RDSO and Northern Railway, the board cleared a 10-car hydrogen train set. The train will run at a maximum speed of 75 kmph on the Jind-Sonipat section of the Delhi Division in Haryana.
The letter stated that sanction is given for the 10-car hydrogen fuel cell based DEMU coaches up to the specified speed on the dedicated Jind-Sonipat section of Northern Railway.
