Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal suffered a minor injury to his right hand during an attack with a sharp weapon at a gurdwara in Maharashtra’s Nanded on Thursday, police reported. The incident occurred around 1:45 pm at Gurdwara Mata Sahib Devan Ji Mugat while Badal was visiting. The attacker, identified as Nihang Jaspal Singh Tejpal, a 62-year-old lawyer from Pune, was detained shortly afterward. Badal received treatment at Yashosai Hospital, where a team of surgeons performed surgery under local anesthesia. His condition is stable and he is out of danger. A security officer accompanying him also sustained minor injuries while intervening. Senior officials including the Nanded Collector and Superintendent of Police monitored the situation at the hospital. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered a detailed investigation into the motive and any possible security lapses. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders inquired about Badal’s health. Political figures from various parties condemned the attack and called for a thorough probe while urging people to maintain peace.
