Maharashtra authorities have detained Bijendra Gupta, identified as the main suspect in the Teacher Eligibility Test paper leak incident, from Bihar. A second individual was also taken into custody with him, though the specific district remains undisclosed. Bhiwandi police handled the arrest, after which Gupta was transported to Pune Airport for transfer to Bhiwandi. Investigators from the Special Task Force and Special Investigation Team had searched a cyber cafe in Hajipur, Vaishali district, on July 1, leading to the questioning of three people including operator Sonu Kumar. Links were found between Kumar and Gupta, a Samastipur resident. Additional arrests included a cyber cafe worker in Hajipur, plus Pawan Kumar from Delhi and Hariom Panu from Haryana, both associates of Gupta. Gupta’s wife, Suman Kumari, was previously detained in Patna on July 1, 2026, based on call and financial records. The TET 2026 exam was delayed on June 27 following the discovery of a leaked question paper section in Thane district. The operation spanned Delhi, Agra, Bihar, and Haryana, impacting around 600,000 candidates after the NEET-UG controversy.
