Educators are expressing apprehension about potential harm to school buildings set to serve as voting locations during the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Common problems include campaign posters attached to walls, scattered litter, and impaired blackboards that staff must address once voting concludes.

Schools were initially designated as practical venues for polling stations in 1951, when India was preparing for its first nationwide elections, which included state assembly contests.
