The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau detained a municipal assistant engineer in Peddapally district on Tuesday while he was allegedly receiving a bribe of two lakh rupees from a contractor. The payment was said to be for clearing and sending a final bill connected to a local development scheme.

Officials stated that the 33-year-old engineer, employed at the Peddapally municipal office, was caught at his home by the Karimnagar unit after demanding and taking the amount from the complainant. The funds were requested to process bills for graveyard development works under a municipal package valued at 12.28 lakh rupees, which were to be sent onward for approval.

The bureau recovered the marked bribe money from the officer. Additional searches at the residence yielded 32.31 lakh rupees in unexplained cash. The individual was placed under arrest and will appear before the special court handling such cases in Karimnagar. Further inquiries continue.

The agency has kept the complainant’s name confidential and urged citizens to report any bribe demands by officials via the toll-free number 1064.
