US President Donald Trump on Monday celebrated a Supreme Court decision that he said expanded presidential authority. He criticized the court for declining to hear his appeal in the E. Jean Carroll defamation case and renewed calls for Congress to pass stricter election laws.
In posts on his Truth Social platform, Trump described one ruling as the greatest increase in presidential power in a century and vowed further legal steps.
Trump welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision in the case involving dismissal of a Federal Trade Commission official, calling it a landmark victory for executive authority. The ruling allowed removal of FTC commissioners at will, overturning a 1935 precedent.
Trump also commented on a procedural ruling involving Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. He said the case was returned on procedural grounds and pledged immediate action to address alleged wrongdoing.
Trump criticized the court for refusing to review his appeal of the five million dollar judgment in the Carroll case. He called it a politically motivated matter and said he would continue to challenge the outcome.
Trump used another court decision on voting rights to urge passage of the SAVE AMERICA Act. The proposed law would require photo identification for voters, proof of US citizenship, and limits on mail-in ballots.
The Supreme Court issued multiple rulings that both expanded and limited presidential authority over independent agencies while preserving Federal Reserve independence.
