Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi on Friday directed officials to finish restoration of the collapsed section of the Tungabhadra Left Bank Main Canal near the 46th Mile point close to Mylapur by Sunday, requiring round-the-clock work. He inspected the breach site with MLC Basanagouda Badarli and assessed restoration progress. The canal normally carries 2,800 cusecs of water. The minister called for continuous repairs to speed completion and asked police to limit traffic on the canal bund temporarily to avoid interruptions. He also told irrigation officials to check the full length of the canal, locate weak spots, and finish fixes before water flows again. Strict orders went to Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Limited engineer S.B. Malligawad to address all damage promptly. Inflows to the Tungabhadra reservoir have risen sharply, with 10 tmcft entering over two days, including 4 tmcft on Thursday. The reservoir now holds 68 tmcft. A meeting of the Tungabhadra Irrigation Consultative Committee is scheduled for August 11 to decide on water release, with input from MPs, MLAs, opposition leaders, farmers, and experts. Deputy Commissioner Suresh Itnal, Zilla Panchayat CEO Varnit Negi, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Nyamagouda joined the site visit.
