Venezuela faced further seismic activity when a magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck early Sunday, following two stronger quakes in recent days. The twin events of 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude have caused around 1,500 deaths and left over 51,000 people missing. Physical damage is estimated at $6.7 billion. US officials stated that American urban search and rescue teams along with humanitarian supplies were quickly deployed. Residents have expressed frustration over disorganized and slow government efforts, forcing many to depend on volunteers. International teams from at least 17 nations are assisting, while authorities have sent more than 14,000 military and police personnel and limited access to hard-hit zones such as La Guaira. A newborn was pulled alive from debris 32 hours after the main shocks. The UN estimates up to 6.76 million people may need emergency shelter, water, and medical aid.
