Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan stressed the importance of accessible and accountable leadership on Wednesday. He warned that the idea of VIP culture risks damaging trust between citizens and the government.
He spoke at the launch of the book VIP Culture in India: Power, Privilege and the Distance from Democracy, written by Nabam Rebia, former Rajya Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh, and Sandeep Kumar, a UPSC coach and motivational speaker.
“Democracy thrives when public office is treated as a duty rather than a special advantage. Genuine leadership means staying reachable, responsible and linked to the hopes of ordinary citizens,” Radhakrishnan said.
