Nine months after the Karur stampede that killed 41 people and affected the state assembly election, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay visited the city on Friday. He defended his actions during the incident, questioned the police handling and criticized the previous DMK administration.

Speaking at an event to distribute job letters to victims’ families, Vijay expressed ongoing grief over the loss. The stampede took place at his election rally in Velusamypuram, where large crowds gathered. Forty-one individuals, including children, died and over 100 were hurt. The CBI is now probing the case.

Vijay denied claims that his party caused the deaths and stated that crowd control was the police duty. He said he had relied on officers to manage the situation but was instead held responsible. He added that officials could have warned his team about the risks instead of shifting blame afterward.

Vijay announced that his party, TVK, would construct a memorial in Karur for those who died. He noted that the city would always remain in his thoughts.
