West Bengal has launched a new state health insurance scheme for residents ineligible for the central Ayushman Bharat Yojana. Named Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana, it targets those already enrolled in Swasthya Sathi. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the plan in July at a public event in Rejinagar, stating that coverage up to five lakh rupees would be provided. Benefits are intended to apply across India. Only permanent state residents excluded from Ayushman Bharat qualify. Annual family income above eight lakh rupees disqualifies applicants, as do participants in the West Bengal Health Scheme 2008, Central Government Health Scheme, ESI Scheme, or public sector health plans. Senior citizens over seventy and those receiving medical allowances are also barred. Cashless treatment of five lakh rupees per family is offered annually, with individual cards issued. Pre-existing conditions are included, and Aadhaar-based verification is required. Treatment rules align with Ayushman Bharat guidelines.
