The YSR Congress Party has opposed the Andhra Pradesh government proposal to permit beach shacks along the Visakhapatnam coast, claiming the plan could harm law and order. Party members led by Visakhapatnam district president K.K. Raju and women leaders held a demonstration at Ramakrishna Beach. Raju said the ruling party had earlier promised to generate wealth from the coastline but is now promoting liquor sales under the banner of tourism. He added that the government is neglecting conventional tourism and that beach shacks would reduce safety for women and children visiting the area. Raju suggested the authorities should instead build fishing jetties and harbours. The party also criticised Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat and TDP state president Palla Srinivasa Rao for backing the beach shack proposal.
