Hyderabad: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has condemned an alleged religious instruction at Success School in the Old City, calling for cancellation of the school’s recognition and a government probe.

ABVP state secretary Macherla Rambabu told reporters that requiring a Class II Hindu student to write the Kalma and Surah Al-Fatihah as homework suggests schools may be used for religious conversion. He asked the Telangana Education Department to clarify under which syllabus such content was assigned.

Rambabu noted earlier incidents, including a circular from Minority Gurukul directing recitation of the Kalma and payment of religious instructors from public funds. He alleged that government-supported institutions educating students from multiple communities were being used for conversions and that the practice had now reached private schools.

The ABVP criticised the education minister and department for inaction, claiming such incidents had risen since the Congress government took office. It demanded an inquiry, cancellation of the school’s recognition and measures to prevent recurrence.

The row began after a Class II Hindu student at Success School in Saidabad was reportedly given homework to read and write the Kalma and Surah Al-Fatihah. The school later dismissed the teacher involved.

Union Minister of State Bandi Sanjay Kumar called the incident a threat to religious freedom and urged the state government to act against the management. VHP spokesperson Dr Shashidhar described it as part of a pattern and said the organisation would approach the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Nizamabad MP Arvind Dharmapuri demanded an FIR, stating that dismissing the teacher was insufficient.
