Days after claims of misappropriation of donations at Uttarakhand’s Badrinath temple emerged, the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee suspended Pramod Nautiyal, personal assistant to chairman Hemant Dwivedi, pending inquiry.
The action follows intensified probes by both the temple body and the state government, which has set up a high-level panel to examine the alleged irregularities.
The committee stated that Nautiyal was suspended immediately after a preliminary review found substance in the claims. A show-cause notice had been issued on July 3 regarding alleged irregularities in his duties. An internal four-member inquiry panel was also formed.
After reviewing his response and initial findings, the panel recommended disciplinary measures. The committee noted that his continued presence could affect the investigation’s integrity.
During suspension, Nautiyal will receive a subsistence allowance and remain attached to the Joshimath office. He must not leave headquarters without approval and must cooperate with proceedings.
The committee emphasized its focus on transparency and accountability.
Separately, the Uttarakhand government formed a three-member high-level committee headed by the Garhwal Commissioner, including National Health Mission Managing Director Sandeep Tiwari and Director (Finance) Jagat Singh Chauhan. The panel must submit findings within 15 days.
The BKTC’s inquiry team reached Badrinath on Tuesday. CEO Sohan Singh Rangad said notices were issued to four individuals and the probe would use CCTV footage, employee statements and records.
Rangad clarified that recent CCTV replacements were routine upgrades and prior recordings were preserved.
The issue surfaced via social media claims of irregularities during donation counting. A complaint by Bhairav Sena founder Sandeep Khatri sought an impartial inquiry and FIR.
Chairman Dwivedi said action was taken within 24 hours. He clarified the suspended employee was a regular staff member, not a personal appointee.
Parallel investigations continue, with further actions dependent on evidence.
