Deshabhimani, the Malayalam daily linked to the Kerala CPM, reached readers on July 19 without its Sunday supplement. The paper withdrew the edition, citing technical reasons. Resident Editor M. Swaraj repeated this account to reporters. Reports later indicated the supplement had included an article titled “Kallan Vijayan”. The edition was meant to mark the first death anniversary of former Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan on July 21, 2025. It featured several pieces on Achuthanandan, whose relations with Pinarayi Vijayan had been discussed in Kerala politics for years. After the supplement was pulled, rumours spread about the cause. Reports then surfaced that the back page carried the article “Kallan Vijayan”, meaning “Vijayan, the thief”. CPM leaders reportedly viewed the piece as disrespectful to Pinarayi Vijayan. They denied the article existed. T.C. Rajesh later posted the full text on Facebook. This post challenged the technical reasons claim given by Swaraj. The original supplement was replaced by a revised version without the article and distributed on July 20. Reports also indicated that Sunday supplement Editor K.R. Ajayan may face action. On July 21 his office was locked and he was asked for an explanation. The episode drew wide comment on social media, with users noting that screenshots remained available online.
