What was intended as a joyful occasion for a family in Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli became a tragedy when a man died by suicide hours before his daughter’s wedding.
Kaushal, a carpenter, was discovered hanging from a tree in an orchard behind a temple near his home on the morning of his eldest daughter Khushboo’s wedding.
Relatives started looking for Kaushal after he disappeared before the ceremonies. His body was found suspended from a tree.
Kaushal’s son Suraj told police that his father had faced intense mental pressure due to wedding costs. He had taken loans from multiple sources and was deeply anxious in the days before the event.
“My father was very disturbed because of my sister’s wedding. He had taken loans from several people. I work outside the village and had also contributed significantly towards the marriage expenses,” Suraj said.
Locals reported that around Rs 5 lakh was spent on the wedding. Kaushal, who made wooden furniture for a living, had struggled to gather the funds and borrowed money to cover the costs.
A senior police officer stated that the case is under investigation and that no information about dowry demands from the groom’s side has emerged.
